How The Media Uses Gay Issues To Hurt Democrats
Is this the face of homosexuality in America? As far as the mainstream press is concerned, yes. At gay rallies, CNN is not going to show Rachel Maddow speaking. They will thow this man on the left. I found this image as the face for a gay pride parade. Every election year, we see more and more gay people being married and the issue gets hotter and hotter as elections approach. There is a problem with this.First, before I'm hammered with accusations of intolerance, I am for gay marriage, gay rights as well as hate crime legislation. The problem is this: We Democrats and liberals are already for gay marriage, and pushing the issue only motivates the other side.
Now that I'm getting older, I recognize this pattern. Maybe gay couples are always getting licences in jurisdictions where it's illegal, but it seems as if the news waits until near the election to show it, and it freaks out the religious right as well as the silent non-religious bigoted majority. What happens then is that we come out in our regular numbers but they come out in record numbers because they think they are saving the world when they vote.
So what am I saying? Go back in the closet? No. I'm saying that we should try our best not to motivate republicans who might not otherwise vote. Remember, if the Gay Pride parade is ten miles long, CNN will only show the half naked weirdos trailing at the end of the parade, and those people motivate republicans. And even though weddings are normally innocuous events, illegal weddings still freak out the conservative, and worse, motivate them. I fully understand that the people we see on the news are the minority of gays in America, and the news does seek out the weird and inflammatory, but I feel that on election years, we should try our best to minimize undesired news.
Just trying to win one for a change. What do you think?

Hehehe that's a funny picture,
Look that's art and funny, But your right the stupid people look and that and don't think, Wow the world we live in is amazing and the more different people are the more interesting the world is. They would rather see every one in black and white suits, all looking the same.
So its sad that you have to dumb down culture so that you can get a lying murderer out of office.
Man it sux because I live in Australia and I have to suffer with Bushes Americans presidential decision and I cant vote him out. it almost feels like a global dictatorship. DOH! Oh well I'm voting to get Howard out. think global act local :)

Great blog man, But don't hang around those republican chat rooms to much because it will do your head in. When I listen to them for to long it can really bring me down and I feel real sadness for this world and for them.
But god your show really shows every one how close minded and unloving these people are.

(sorry I'm having trouble posting today)
I'm with you on keeping the in-your-face stuff at bay. I wish everyone who's a potential "cultural hot-button" would tone it down for the next few months, and then when Democrats win all the elections this Fall, everyone can party like it's 1999.
The media focuses only on the most 'out there' people and then people draw wrong conclusions. How about no one gives the media much ammo this year!
I'm beginning to feel like I live in Australia, because I wonder sometimes if my vote counts at all in American elections. But I do avoid chat rooms now. It's getting passe.
